Very good question ...  A celebrant is the person who crafts your bespoke wedding or commitment ceremony.  I am the script writer, artistic director and performer all rolled into one.   They also perform the ceremony that you as a couple have created including readings, music, vows, promise, and ritual elements from your cultures.  
 

What is the difference between a Registrar  and a  Celebrant ?  

A Registrar  is a person employed by the local authority where you live to do the legal stuff to ensure that you are able to enter into a legally binding  contract of being married to the person of your choice.   They will check that you are who  you say you are and  will perform legal ceremony  Infront of two witnesses following a prescribed script.   This script 

A Celebrant is in charge of all the fun, glamour and personal  elements of your day.    

What is the difference between a Humanist and an independent Celebrant ?  

Humanist ceremonies are completely free of any and all religious context. So a humanist wedding celebration will not have hymns or songs or poetry that have a religious background. And while it is an amazing option for those who would choose it, it can be too secular an option for many couples.

One of the main things I love about being an independent celebrate is that i get to guide couples to design a ceremony that includes all aspects of who they are including their religious beliefs. I work with a lot of interfaith couples and people who have strong faith but do feel comfortable in a religious environment. They want to include, music, readings and ceremonies that have a religious context so would not be able to be used in a Humanist or Registrar wedding 

My ceremonies have elements of whimsy and glamor, but at their heart are about making sure that everyone who is important to you is able to enjoy and feel part of the day.

When I work with you to plan a wedding or commitment ceremony, we start off discussing what is going to stress you out the most and then find work . This has included closed captioning of the ceremony, or having a British Sign Language translator at the event.  

Whatever your background and beliefs, when it comes to weddings there are oh so many expectations on what a wedding should be.  But the best thing about working with an independent wedding celebrant is that there are no rules.
